First Grade

"Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10."

Second Grade

"Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By the end of grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers. By the end of grade 2, know from memory related subtraction facts of sums of two one-digit numbers."

Third Grade

Students should continue to maintain their fluency with addtion and subtraction. They should also, "Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between mutiplication and division."

Fourth Grade

"Know all multiplication facts and related division facts through 12x12. Fluently add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers using a standard algorithm."

Many students lose their addition and subtraction facts as they begin to focus on multiplication and division. Please be sure to continue to practice these.

Fifth Grade

Students should continue to work on all facts as they will be applied throughout the year when students work on fractions, fluently multiplying multi-digit whole numbers, and more.

No matter the grade, math facts are an important tool for your child to have!
